It is budget season for both the city and county. Below is a notice about
meetings regarding the county budget.

If there are things that you want to see funded - or not cut (or other things
that should be cut), now is the time to speak up. Maybe suggesting that the Cap
City Trail maintenance be paid for out of general transportation funds?

> Greetings Dane County Environmental Smart Growth Leaders:
>
> The notice below announces several preliminary hearings on the 2004 Dane
>County budget held by the Dane County Board of Supervisors. Note that
>transportation funding issues will be dealt with on Monday, September 22nd,
>while
>county parks funding issues will be addressed on Wednesday, September 24th.
>These hearings are to gather input for developing the budget -- there will be
>another hearing before the full Dane County Board after the County Executive's

>proposed 2004 budget is presented in October.
>
> However, it is critical that we keep our issues regarding land
>preservation funding, support for Transport 2020 planning, and other
>environmental
>initiatives before the County Board so that they are not lost in the
>outcries about
>cuts in human services programs or alleged insufficient funding of the
>Sheriff's department.
>
> Please attend one or both of these hearings and speak up for continuing
>the essential investment that Dane County is making to protect and enhance our

>environment. All the other issues that get the daily headlines will be
>irrelevant if we destroy the good earth and waters that sustain us every day.

>Please spread the word about these important hearings to the activists in your

>organizations and urge them to speak out at them.
>
> Thanks for the quality of Dane County's future,

>
>In August, 2002 the County Board approved Ordinance Amendment 7, 2002-2003,

>bring issues to the Board prior to the introduction of the County
>Executive's recommended budget. The Health and Human Needs Committee has
>already conducted two public hearings on the Department of Human Services
>budget.
>
>On Monday, September 22, 2003, at 7:00 PM in Room 201, departments overseen
>by the Public Protection and Judiciary Committee, the Zoning and Natural

>outline their budget requests and respond to questions from the County

>The hearings will be posted as committees of the whole, and a primary goal
>of these hearings is to provide supervisors an opportunity to learn about
>budgets for departments overseen by committees on which they do not serve.
>I expect that all supervisors will want to attend the hearings, and I
>anticipate that they will contribute significantly to our budget
>deliberations.
>
>Please let me know if you have any questions.
