Thanks to the correspondents who drew my attention to the unfortunate fact that the elimination of route 10 was not addressed in the public hearing notices--neither for the current hearing (next Monday 22 Sept 6pm rm 260 MMB) or for the "Southeast Quadrant" hearings this Spring.

I do believe that transparency and public input are important. I am grateful to Mike Barrett for raising this issue. The proposal does maintain route 11 which bypasses the square as it provides south-side-of-Isthmus to Campus service in the peaks. The new route 9 will provide Campus to north-side-of-Isthmus service every ~15 minutes in the midday, (half-hourly service inbound) and also bypass the square.

Due to pressure from various quarters, Metro staff is doing a 100% survey of route 10 riders one day this week. They told me they will ask about boarding and alighting for both inbound & outbound riders. They will supply TPC with "hard data" about route 10's role as a crosstown connector at next week's hearing. If route 10's crosstown role proves as important as suggested (and I have no reason to doubt it), then the data will support somehow recreating that service.

I'm more "transit dependent"* than many of you, since I can neither ride a bike nor drive. I will definitely advocate for restoring the crosstown service if it's used.
