Bicyclist dies in morning crash
A 28-year-old bicyclist was killed early Friday along Hwy. 33 in the town
of Shelby after being rear-ended by a car.
The man, whose name was not released pending notification of relatives,
worked in La Crosse and was originally from the Milwaukee area, according
to the La Crosse County Sheriff's Department.
Early-morning darkness and a lack of rear lighting on the bicycle appear
to be contributing factors in the accident, Capt. Jeff Wolf said. The car
was driven by an 68-year-old La Crosse woman, who was not injured nor
immediately identified by police.
"It doesn't appear alcohol was involved, nor high speed or recklessness,"
Wolf said. "Contributing factors appear to be darkness and a lack of
lighting equipment on the rear of the bicycle.
