2003 NEIGHBORHOOD CONFERENCE
Saturday, October 4

Monona Terrace Community and Convention Center

Mayor Dave Cieslewicz will spend Saturday morning with Madison residents
and neighborhood leaders at the 2003 Neighborhood Conference.  Neighborhood
Voices conference will concentrate on emerging issues identified by
attendees through brainstorming, prioritizing, and voting on important
issues.  

�One of the best ways to get to know a city is through its neighborhoods,�
said Cieslewicz. �I�m very excited to hear the ideas these leaders have for
enhancing our city�s quality of life.�

The discussions are designed to help city officials understand challenges
neighborhoods face and how to help neighborhood leaders be succeed in their
community work.  

Madison residents and neighborhood association members will be encouraged
to provide input on:

What emerging issues face you and your neighborhood? 

* Sense of Place and Community
What were the reasons for moving to your neighborhood?

* Neighborhood Association Challenges
What are the challenges facing your neighborhood association? 

* Changing Neighborhoods
What can the city, residents, and neighborhood associations do to improve a
neighborhood that is in decline and experiencing problems?

* Neighborhood Capacity Building and Support
What are the skills/tools that you find most valuable at the grassroots
level?  

* Development Process
What processes and actions can be taken by neighborhood associations,
developers and the city to ensure meaningful citizen and neighborhood
association involvement during the development process?

Madison Gas and Electric Co. is sponsoring this conference, allowing for
attendance free of charge. Conference parking at Monona Terrace will cost $3.
