[Bikies] Friedman on Gasoline Taxes

Neofascist New York Times columnist and author Tom Friedman, responding 
to recent OPEC moves to cut production to keep crude prices high, 
proposes a new Federal $1 gasoline tax in his column in today's Times 
(http://www.nytimes.com/2003/10/05/opinion/05FRIE.html -- registration 
required). This isn't a new idea-- alternative transportation advocates 
have been singing this song for moons-- but it's refreshing to hear it 
come from the extreme right. He claims that it would raise $110B/year. I 
find it a little hard to imagine the same administration that works so 
hard to promote gasoline consumption going for this, but just maybe it's 
regressive enough to whet their appetite for punishing the poor?
