We did it on a recent weekday afternoon around 3:30-4 PM. I even got
a flat right under the interstate bridge, so I got to see the traffic
patterns of that time of day up close & personal in a longitudinal
kind of way. It really wasn't that thick. The problem is, and
always has been (at least since 1991), that stretch between USH 51 &
the I gets quite narrow, so what traffic there is can be
bothersome/dangerous because the Town of Horsey-Doggie-Farmette set
is starting to get to that raggedy edge part of town where they are
expecting--nay, demanding-- to ramp up to 65 mph, and dammit you are
in their way! Somewhere out there, their allies in City Engineering
have widened it out to 4 lanes to accommodate those exurbanite speed
fantasies. We got a sop in the deal in that there are bike lanes out
in the 4 lane stretch; those lanes are of course are merited (given
what I've just described). The extra car lanes are not (given the
low volumes of traffic). A TWTL + bike lanes would have worked just
fine, even if more truck & other traffic is anticipated as the
industrial park out there fills out. Traffic would have been calmed,
yet managed well; turns would have been safely facilitated; cyclists
could be a part of speed moderated traffic rather than tiny, blurry,
nearly invisible blips outside a 65 mph windshield, etc.
The upshot, if you can handle Seminole at rush hour, Femrite on a
Sunday will be a cinch.

I'm heading out to Cam-Rock this Sunday to watch some Cyclocross
races and I'm wanting to know if Femrite is bike-worthy. I've not
been out that way in some time and I can see from the map that
taking it will save me about 20 miles on the day.
