I guess you are not supposed to ride your bike to the festivities! From

http://www.madisonpolice.com/Specialevent.html

"Bicycles racks will be removed on Thursday October 30, 2003 to accommodate the expected crowds. Notices will be posted. Please remove your bicycle and store it safely inside."

Does anybody know how many parking spaces this represents?  Will there be alternate bicycle parking facilities provided (perhaps by relocating racks into parking structures)?

Madison would look a lot more bike friendly if the announcement had been worded:

"Bicycle racks on State Street will be relocated to parking structures on Thursday October 30, 2003 to accommodate the expected crowds. Notices will be posted. Please ride your bike, do not leave it sitting  safely inside".

This from the Madison Police Department:

Bicycles will not be allowed to park on State St. beginning
Thursday Oct. 30 until Sun. Nov. 2.

( I think has something to do with some ceremonial observances
this weekend).
