Dear Secretary Busalacchi, Below you will find a plea to reduce speeding from Wisconsin Walks. We support their efforts. We are tired of having people in our neighborhoods on the East Side of Madison run down on your highways. What will you do about providing us with safe transportation as opposed to your current speed ber alles transportation system? Your highwaymen completely ignored our neighborhood during the East Washington planning process and slammed us with an even bigger, deadlier highway plan. We elected a new mayor to stand up to these excesses. We expect you to cooperate. Will you?
Sincerely, Michael D. Barrett and Pamela S. Barrett 2137 Sommers Avenue Madison, WI 53704 (608)245-1059

Greetings! Speeding cars put pedestrians at risk. Speed is a factor in many of the crashes in Wisconsin. Participants at our Walking Workshops often identify speed as a key concern.
Wisconsin Walks encourages all Wisconsin residents to observe speed limits as we drive. Speeders rob children of their freedom to walk safely. Posted speed limits are the maximum speed for operating a motor vehicle. The speed limit is not a guideline. It's the law.
Wisconsin Walks has formally asked WisDOT Secretary Frank Busalacchi to take a greater leadership role to reduce speeding throughout the state by initiating a pace car program administered by WisDOT. The attached letter outlines our proposal and includes websites for more information.
If you agree that speeding is a problem, please take time right now to send Secretary Busalacchi an email, or phone or call him. This one act can make a big difference. Thank you for your help!
