The highway bill proposes $255 B be spent, mostly on highways. It
recommends $250 M for safe walking and bicycling to school, or less than
$1 for every $1,000 for highways -- to say nothing about the increasingly
polluted air, more noise, more destruction of wildlife habitat and
increasing safety problems that go with more motor vehicles being driven
each year. I hardly call supporting that advocating for cycling!

The highway builders and AAA are laughing all the way to the bank -- they
say even America Bikes supports their plan -- while the whole environment
for everything goes down the tube.

That's kind of thinking that got us all into this mess.

"On average, a pedestrian is killed in a traffic crash every 112
minutes." (American Public Transportation Association, Transit Fact Book
1999).
