The hands on project is a uniquely designed "carbonmeter" - used to
figure out the how much carbon you put in the atmosphere by driving.
There will also be a display to make a comparison to other modes, and
various literature available about the problem. Bicyclists and walkers
do the best, of course.

interested in coming to the Ice Science and Climate Change workshops at
the Kites on Ice Festival.

***********************************************************************

The Preserve Our Climate Coalition invites you to come to workshops on
ice
science and climate change at the Kites on Ice Festival. This year's
festival will be held at the Memorial Union on Saturday and Sunday,
February 7th and 8th.

How do scientists study ice? What's happening to the ice on Wisconsin's

lakes? Is global warming affecting ice? What can we do about global
warming? Why does ice float? Come to this workshop to learn more about

the science of ice. See a photo show by Professor John Magnuson (UW
Dept.
of Limnology) about lake ice, long term studies of the freeze and thaw

dates of Wisconsin lakes, and climate change. Join in hands-on
activities
for kids and the whole family.

The displays and talks will be in the Langdon Room of the Memorial Union
(800 Langdon Street on the University of Wisconsin campus). The talks by
Prof. John Magnuson will be on both Saturday and Sunday at 11 AM. The
displays and hands-on activities will be open from 10-4 PM in the Langdon
Room on both days. Prof. Magnuson and others from the Center for
Limnology
also plan to give tours of the ice.

This workshop is sponsored by the Preserve Our Climate Coalition
(http://www.madison.com/communities/preserveourclimate/).
