Yeah, good point, Darin. Also notice how they make no mention of the damage that
snowmobile traffic does to the crushed limestone sections of the trail. Not to mention
the few sections that are black topped. One section in particular, which is right along
side the Military Ridge shelter in downtown Mount Horeb, has it black top surface
crumbling and chipping away. Definitely not a result of winter bicycle traffic!

Gee, I wonder if the approved North Mendota Parkway will be paved,
or just have crushed limestone. Sorry, no winter commuting for you
people from DeForest!

I strongly encourage all bicycle riders to stay off of the crushed
limestone section of the trail (from Verona Trailhead west towards
Dodgeville) during the winter thaw and springtime. The trail is very
soft and bicycle traffic will damage the surface. It takes that much
more time to repair the surface, once it's full of bicycle tire ruts. Please consider riding on the black top section of the Military Ridge
State Trail, from Old Highway PB northeast towards Highway PD and/or the
Capital City State Trail.
