From the Mayor's Fit City office. Earth Day/Fit City activities to clean up area parks

There's no excuse not to get moving this weekend.

You can take part in the American Cancer Society Run/Walk in Madison Saturday morning at Warner Park. For more info check out their website at http://www.kintera.org/faf/home/default.asp?ievent=46141

Mayor Dave will be using Earth Day as the backdrop for his quarterly Fitness Event.

Help celebrate Madison's 8th Annual Earth Day Challenge and Fit City Madison Event by cleaning a up an area park.
The event will take place Saturday, April 17th with over 2,000 volunteers donating a few hours of their time to plant trees and clean up several of Madison's 249 parks. These volunteers consist of neighborhood associations, schools, youth groups, families, seniors, and individuals. Even Mayor Cieslewicz will be rolling his sleeves up to help spread over 60 tons of gravel on new trails at Prairie Ridge Park!
The festivities will begin on Friday, April 16th with local elementary schools celebrating the Earth Day Challenge as well as Youth Service Day and Arbor Day. Students and Staff at Midvale Elementary, Sandburg School, Lakeview Elementary, and Kennedy School will not only be planting trees, but picking up trash around their schools and neighboring parks.
The Earth Day Challenge serves as the kick-off for the Park Division's volunteer season. Every year citizens volunteer thousands of hours in their neighborhood parks by cleaning up trash, maintaining flower gardens, removing garlic mustard, spreading mulch, and raising money for park improvements.
All the time donated by volunteers is greatly appreciated and serves as a gracious contribution to our community. The City of Madison Parks Division would also like to thank Starbucks Coffee for sponsoring the 2004 Earth Day Challenge.
If you or your group would like to participate in the Earth Day Challenge, please call Laura Whitmore, Parks Community Relations Coordinator at 266-5949. Or e-mail Laura at [EMAIL PROTECTED] Volunteers are still needed at various parks across the city, so if you are interested in rolling up your own sleeves to help this great cause, there are still parks available for clean up.
