A notice about the upcoming 4/21 Starkweather planning meeting is below. This is the public's best chance to offer input into what we want the Starkweather creek corridor to look like in the future -- including parks, trails, and the creek itself. Please plan to attend, and spread the word to your friends and neighbors!

Starkweather Creek Planning Workshop Date: April 21, 5:30 p.m. registration, 6-8 p.m. workshop Location: Olbrich Botanical Gardens, 3330 Atwood Ave. For more information call: Simon Widstrand, 266-4714
On April 21, the City of Madison, East Isthmus Neighborhoods Planning Council and Friends of Starkweather Creek will hold a public workshop to plan for improvements to Starkweather Creek. The Starkweather Creek watershed drains 24 square miles of Northeast Madison into Lake Monona, encompassing 21 neighborhoods and 10 miles of stream corridor.
Starkweather has been the subject of several previous watershed plans, which have been partially implemented. The current project will combine and update the previous plans and propose a schedule of improvements to begin in 2005. The facilitated workshop on April 21 will provide attendees with information and recommendations based on previous plans. The workshop will also provide the public the opportunity to express their preferences and priorities for future work. Staff from the Parks and Engineering Divisions will consider these public comments as they prepare plan recommendations to be presented at a second meeting this summer.
The plan and the public comments will address issues such as streamflow and stormwater management, streambank stabilization, environmental preservation and restoration, bike and pedestrian linkages, trails and other recreational uses.
The workshop will be held on Wednesday, April 21 at the Olbrich Botanical Center, 3330 Atwood Avenue. Doors open at 5:30 for registration and informal viewing of maps and plans. The facilitated workshop follows from 6-8 PM when participants will be guided to make comments and indicate priorities.
