The Wisconsin Department of Transportation (DOT) has announced it is holding public
hearings to receive the publics comments on its Verona Road/West Beltline "Solutions
for Tomorrow" Draft Environmental Impact Statement (DEIS) next week Monday, May 17,
and Tuesday, May 18, 2004 in Madison.

Each part of the study, which spans on the West Beltline from Todd Drive west to US 14
in Middleton, and on Verona Road from Nakoma Road (intersection with Beltline) to
County Highway PD, has multiple highway, freeway and interchange alternatives,
including a no-build alternative.

Major alternatives include adding two lanes of motor vehicle traffic to the West
Beltline Highway between Mineral Point Road and Verona Road, adding two more lanes of
traffic on Verona Road starting at Nakoma Road and proceeding to County Highway PD
(about 1 mi.), including the possibility of a depressed freeway in that area.

The expanded highways are identified in a Draft Environmental Impact Statement on the
project, which is available for review at public libraries, municipalities' clerk's
offices and at the Dane County Head Start Headquarters at 2096 Red Arrow Trail.

The public hearings will be held on:

Monday, May 17, 2004; Toki Middle School Gymnasium; 5606 Russett Road; 6 P.M. to 9
P.M., and
Tuesday, May 18, 2004, Head Start Headquarters, 2096 Red Arrow Trail, 6 P.M. to 9 P.M..

There will be a formal presentation, each evening, at 7 P.M., followed by a formal
public hearing. Opportunities for oral and written testimony will be available
throughout both evenings.
