SAFE ROUTES ACTION ALERT: Safe Routes to School needs your support! Please put in calls to both your Senators now (before end of the day June 10th). This week, Congress is starting to reconcile the differences between the House and Senate transportation bills. Both versions contain a new Safe Route to School program, but the House program is better (more money, better language), and we want the Senate to adopt it. Call the Senator's Washington DC office and ask to talk to the transportation staffer, or just leave a message at the front desk.
Say this: "I am calling to ask Senator <Name> to ask his colleagues who are conferencing the transportation bills to adopt the House version of Safe Routes to School. The House Safe Routes program is stronger and more flexible and will make more of an impact in our state." Congress will be closed on Friday June 11th for Reagan's state funeral, so please make calls by the end of Thursday, June 10th.
