To clarify:

I was in the middle of the right hand land, a straight-ahead
or right-turn only lane. The motorist was directly behind me.

As Scott and Arthur point out, safety comes first. I determined
that it would be safe for me to pull over to the left of the lane
and leave enough room for the motorist to pass.

With respect to MikeR's question, no I would not be able to move out
of the way if I were my motor vehicle; this is a *courtesy* which
cyclists are able to offer to motorists. It is voluntary, but I
tend to do it because I'm a Nice Guy (usually)

However, in order for me to be in position for maximum niceness,
I need to know what would best serve my fellow travelers. Thats
what I wanted Mr. Arrogant "my vanity license plate says CBR because I
am Very Important and your should know who I am and I'm too good
for turn signals" Pompous Ass to understand. Instead, he dissed
me even *after* I went out of my way to be nice.

I hope he gets hemorroids.
