Bikies,
The following items at the Tuesday, July 27,
Pedestrian-Bicycle-Motor Vehicle Commission may be of interest to bikies.
The meeting will be at 5 p.m. in Conference Room 260 of the Madison
Municipal Building, 215 Martin Luther King, Jr., Boulevard. NOTE: the
regular meeting starts at 5 p.m. but the public hearing starts an hour
later at 6 p.m.

E. PUBLIC HEARINGS - 6:00 P.M. - ANNUAL PEDESTRIAN-BICYCLE PROJECTS
This is the annual ped/bike public hearing. The Commission is
looking for ideas for major projects that can be included in the capital
budget starting in 2005.

H.6. ID 36495 Resolution directing Traffic Engineering and Parking staff to
develop and implement a plan to return public parking to the Capitol Square.
Bikies should pay careful attention to this item and speak out with
their preferences because this item will make major changes to how traffic
operates on the Capitol square. All the options either eliminate the fixed
guide-way for buses, i.e., reduces the number of motor vehicle lanes to one
resulting in the loss of $50,000-200,000 annually in federal aid, or
eliminate the defined space for bicycles because the wide curb lane would
no longer exist and would be replaced by a 14 foot wide lane next to the
parking which would be too narrow for busses and bike to be side-by-side.
The preferred option is to eliminate the wide curb lane.
