Good points.  I made the traditional right turn signal with my left 
arm a couple years ago with an impatient motorist behind me - you 
are right it can be misinterpreted!  That's when I got real serious 
about signalling with my right arm.

And another, if visibility is important, why are the right turn signals 
on cars on the right side?  Maybe they should be on the left too 
(right next to the left turn signal).
