Brian Benford, Alder for the 12th Aldermanic District ([EMAIL PROTECTED]) is serious about trying to get better bike access up on the northside. And he wants to hear from *you* how to do it at these listening sessions:

Sept 4th at Lakeview Library, 10-12

Sept 11th. Hawthorne Library

Options that he is open to include a bike path and, most notably, striping bike lanes onto a "two-way-left-turn-lane" (TWLTL) North Sherman. The latter option would open up the N. Sherman businesses to bicycling.

Some of you may recall back--way back--in '94 one of BTA's earliest endeavors was a push for TWLTLing North Sherman. We had the support of Traffic Engineering (!) and even one of the WisDOT hiwaymen. There was no support from the 12th District Alder at the time. Now we've got a great alder who wants to do the right thing. But he will need support *from constituents* in making this happen. (There will also be need for support from folks who live Maple Bluff.)

So, if you want to help out in making bicycling a convenient transportation choice to the northside, please at least consider going to the listening sessions Brian has set up.

If you can't make these meetings, that's ok, just email Brian (above) and coordinate strategy.

Good luck northsiders!
-Mike
