specific alder (even if you live across town from the park) to
express support, since this will come up before other commissions and
eventually the council.

I want to thank you for passing on news of May 25th's hearing before the
Parks
Commission regarding the Park & Pleasure Drive. Twenty people spoke in
favor
of restricting motorized through-traffic, two registered in favor but did
not speak,
and only one spoke in opposition to it. On top of that, Jim Morgan stated
that
he had received "hundreds of emails" in favor of restriction or closure to
motorized
vehicles.
After two hours, the Parks Commission voted unanimously to recommend
to the City of Madison Traffic Engineering Department, the City Attorney's
office
and the Common Council that the Park & Pleasure Drive be closed to
motorized through-traffic except for Sunday afternoons like the Arboretum.
This would still allow Edgewood to access their existing driveways, and
bicyclists and pedestrians would still be able to go through both ways all
of the time.
This is a major victory in the long process to reclaim and restore this
beautiful
linear park to its original purpose and intent. It is my hope that the Park
Commission's recommendation will prevail through the rest of the city
process and be implemented. This would allow for all residents to
enjoy the Park & Pleasure Drive without fear for their safety, especially
children and the elderly.
Please accept my gratitude for your part in last night's positive outcome,
and please send on this email to your sidekicks and colleagues. I am
guessing that some of them were there to speak last night ---- and many
more of them were responsible for the deluge of emails sent to Jim Morgan!
