Sure, we should continue to push for the best possible outcome.  But what
if we don't get exactly what we want?  Isn't it practical to also try to
improve a bad situation in the meantime?  If the decision to allow parking
on the Square isn't retracted (and I think it's likely that it probably
won't be), I'd rather have a more sane situation than to stick with the
funky middle lane out of spite.
