Indeed. In fact, I would anticipate an action like this backfiring (no pun
intended). The businesses claim an expectation of increased business from car
drivers with the new car parking. One was quoted in one of the local papers
recently as saying that s/he gets no appreciable business from bicyclists
riding / parking their bikes on the Square. A boycott by bicyclists would just
prove such a claim correct, and further (in the minds of the businesses and
proponents of the car parking) demonstrate the "need" for the car spaces.
