I think a far better plan would be for the BTA to conduct a "Get to
know your Capitol Businesses" event on a weekend in the near future. I
didn't realize this until last year, but there is a photo/video store on
the Square that could have saved me a lot of trouble (buying DV tapes
for Critical Mass Rides) if I had known about it. I am sure there are
other businesses on the square that a lot of bicyclists would frequent
if they were formally introduced.
One of the misconceptions that the downtown business crowd seems to
have is that you can't carry anything big with a bike. The best way to
fix this misconception is to show them how you do it. And at the same
time, you would be showing the non-biking customers that it is possible.
How about it? Let's organize such an event, invite the press, and
show everyone that bicycle facilities are an important enhancement to
the livelihood of the Square!
