Another reason for having all path users travel on the same side is that it avoids the collision vs. stopping issue. If the path is particularly crowded one day or in one location, I can easily ride behind a single walker or a family strolling until it is safe to pass. Both walkers and bicyclists have the chance to move over, slow, step aside, and/or pass without actually stopping. If that same person or family continued to move towards me, we will meet at some point, and I will have to stop my bike. This may happen before I have a chance to safely pass. Now everyone is frustrated.

It is also a mispreception that the person on foot is always the slowest path user. I have often seen runners pass little kids on bikes. Ditto for people pushing jog strollers.

Everyone on the same side works soooooo much better. Please stay to the right regardless of mode, and faster users need to yield to slower users.
