Late last week the western and eastern ends of the Missing Link bike path were paved. It's starting to look like a real path. Although the bridges over Park and Murray Streets are completed, there remains substantial work to be done on the central section of the path. The completion target for the east and west ends of the path is now mid-November. Unfortunately the central portion of the path between Murray and Mills Streets is held up by the need to redesign a retaining wall near Mills and by University utility work at Murray Street. Although the work at Murray Street may be completed in November the central portion of the path will not be completed until spring. According to City staff the current target date for opening the completed path is mid-May of 2006.

Also this week is the last chance to vote on a name for the new path. Visit: http://www.lic.wisc.edu/users/jsc/bike/vote01.htm and cast your vote. Next week I'll start lobbying city staff and local alders to apply the most popular name to the new path. The current favorite is "Greenbush Path" with "South Campus Path" a second. If you don't vote we may end up with a name as euphonic as the "The Northeast Trending Extension of the Southwest Path Extended".

Thanks for all the support for this path. I certainly look forward to using it even if we have to slog through another winter to get there.
