Real catchy eh? I'm going to call it what I proposed until someone comes
up with a better sounding name than the "John Coleman pathway".

Has anyone estimated the distance of the John Coleman pathway vs. taking
the next more direct route that is half way decent?

The current route that I use - starting at the eastern terminus of the
Southwest Path (Camp Randle Stadium at Breese Terrace and Regent St.) -
is to cross Regent St. and take Oakland Ave. to Mound St. -> Brooks St.
-> Vilas Ave. -> West Washington Ave. -> Britingham Park -> Bedford
St..(at Monona Bay). I'm just curious how much less distance the John
Coleman pathway is vs. the current route I use.

On the naming issue, I'd like to also point out that one does NOT have to
be dead before being memorialized by a building, a public park or a even
a street for that matter. Cases in point include: Governor Nelson St.
Park (named 10 or more years ago); Tommy Thompson Fish Hatchery (some may
wish he were but that doesn't count); Crazy Legs Way was named after
Elroy Hirsh long before got legs and left us.

I still like naming the missing link after John for all his hard advocacy
work in getting and keeping it on the front burner. I disapprove of
calling it "the southwest path" unless the city also installs compasses
everywhere along the path so I can be assured of the direction I am
heading at all times so I don't get lost.
