Campus bike route along Walnut was in good condition today (as of
12:30), except bike lane appears still not plowed to full width along
south end of Walnut. Pavement from Walnut to Lakeshore dorms is very
clear.

Temin-Lakeshore Path in very good condition. 2' to 5' ribbon is cleared
to the sand and gravel base along most of the distance, except just
before the Limnology Lab, which is covered in thin, soft and bikeable
packed snow crust. Damp along some places, and a little back-splashy in
others. Very safe overall.

Sympathies to Mitch and any others who slipped today before the warm-up!

Subject: [Bikies] Bike paths are slick today

If you venture onto bike paths today, be careful.

I rode to work about 8:30 this morning, and everything was fine until I
turned onto the Southwest/Missing Link path at Randall Avenue. I rode a
few yards down the path, and then the bike slipped under me, and I
landed on my knee, which is still throbbing as I write. As I lay on the
pavement, I watched another biker, right behind me, fall.

The streets I rode on this morning were just fine -- wet but not
slippery.
The bike path pavement looked like the streets -- until I examined it
closely -- but it was *not* fine.

By the time you read this, the ice on the bike paths may have melted,
and they may be perfectly bikeable. But I would advise caution.
