For immediate release For more information contact: Matt Rice, Dane County Highway Engineer, 608.266.4037 CTH M (CTH Q to STH 113) improvements to begin March 13, 2006 The CTH M project is a 3.6-mile reconstruction and bridge replacement project scheduled to begin on Monday, March 13, 2006. CTH M will be closed to thru traffic from Signature Drive to CTH K, from March 13 to the end of June. During this time, the detour will utilize CTH Q and CTH K. In May for a three-week period the closure will be extended west to Willow Drive. During this time, the detour will utilize CTH Q, STH 19 and STH 113. Payne & Dolan, Inc. is the prime contractor for the work, which involves rehabilitating the pavement from Signature Drive to Willow Road and improving intersections. In addition, the structure over Spring Creek will be replaced and a box culvert will be installed south of the Governor Nelson State Park entrance for a future bike/pedestrian underpass of CTH M. The proposed construction will include the following items which should improve safety: new asphaltic pavement, 2 feet of additional pavement width, traffic signals at CTH K and Woodland Drive, medians and left turn lanes at major intersections and improvements to minor intersections. We anticipate some delays, so travelers should consider using alternate routes or leave extra time in their schedules. We also urge drivers to pay extra attention in the construction zone. This will help ensure their safety, as well as the safety of motorists around them and the construction crews that are building the project. CTH M currently carries 19,750 vehicles per day, including 3.2 percent trucks. By 2026, traffic is expected to increase to 26,500 vehicles per day. Funding for the improvement is a combination of federal transportation monies (80 percent), and local monies (20 percent).
