Getting out to MATC or La Follette HS on a bike or a bus at these hours is not
going to be easy, but I will try. Does anyone have information regarding other
ways of viewing the three "alternatives" (website, for example) and submitting
comments (e-mail, for example)?

In the WSJ article, I see that alternative "two" includes "additional bike and
pedestrian crossings." I shudder to imagine what DOT is including in
alternatives "one" and "three" if only the alternative "two" contains these
essential and basic characteristics.

Why does the city of Madison have to pay the price for the effects of poor
choices (sprawl style development) by outlaying townships? Most of the people
I work with commute from far-flung places like Monroe, Oregon, DeForest, and
beyond; every one of them partakes in the vibrant urban cultural and
service-filled city center. Yet none of them pays Madison property taxes and
all of them disproportionately contribute to the environmental problems
committed through the over-use of automobiles. Our city leaders truly need to
stand up to the narrow-perspectives of the state traffic engineering types who
can't look beyond more lanes as solutions to car crashes and so-called
congestion. There are much larger concerns here than whether or not my
co-worker from Monroe can commute to Madison in under 40 minutes. Congestion
on Stoughton Road is a Good Thing. It makes those people who might be
considering living 30 miles away think twice.

P.S. Thank you to the other posters on this subject; Mike Neuman in
particular.

Excerpt from the WSJ article:

"The first of three alternatives to be presented at the informational meetings
is to keep existing at-grade intersections but relocate some "problem" frontage
roads and add capacity at ramps where there are freeway- style interchanges.

The second is to add interchanges and retain some at- grade intersections, and
provide additional bike and pedestrian crossings.

The third alternative is to eliminate all at- grade intersections "and make it
a freeway," Feeney said.

The informational meetings will be held March 29 from 4 to 8 p.m. at the
Madison Area Technical College Truax Campus, 3550 Anderson St.; and March 30
from 5 to 8 p.m. at La Follette High School, 702 Pflaum Road."
