Here's chance for you to comment to the EPA Administrator on the need for more stringent air particulates from fuel burning and other sources.

Dear PSR Activists-
An important new study by researchers at Harvard University found an association between reductions in ambient levels of fine particulate matter and people living longer lives in six U.S. cities, reinforcing a strong correlation between increased air pollution levels and mortality.
The new data, published in the March 15th issue of the American Journal of Respiratory and Critical Care Medicine, showed that every one microgram per meter cubed (1 mcg/m3) reduction in the average levels of fine particulate matter (PM2.5) resulted in a 3 percent reduction in deaths on average. This decreased death rate is approximate to extending the lives of 75,000 people each year. The largest mortality reductions occurred in the cities that experienced the greatest declines in fine particle levels.
Particulate pollution is made up of tiny particles produced by the combustion of coal, diesel fuel, and other compounds. These particles enter the body through the lungs, where they easily pass into the blood stream and are then pumped throughout the body. Heart attack, stroke, asthma attacks, lung cancer, and premature death are among the many adverse health effects that scientists have linked to particulate matter.
EPA is currently accepting public comments on its proposed revision to the national particle pollution standards. The science is clear--particle pollution is one of the most dangerous forms of air pollution, causing the premature deaths of tens of thousands of Americans each year. Unfortunately, EPA's proposed standards are simply too weak to protect public health and must be significantly strengthened. Click here to learn more about the weak new standards.
For those who have yet to send a letter to EPA, there is still time. Click here to tell EPA you want stronger air quality standards.
For those that have already taken action, PSR appreciates your effort and we ask that you pass this message along to friends, family, and co-workers. We must make our voices heard.
Thank you for your action on this important issue,
The Environment and Health Team
