Drivers overtaking cyclists often respond to a slow-down arm signal, so
I never go anywhere without a helmet mirror to spot these
impatient/reckless drivers. Maybe in this case, the driver was immune
to feelings of compassion for a cyclist on the road..

A mirror can also give a split-second warning of the need to dive for
the ditch, as well..

Motorist passing a bicyclist when there is oncoming traffic. At least
the news report quoted the Columbia County Sheriff's Dept as saying,
"Vehicle operators need to remember that a motorcycle and bicyclist also
have a right of way on the roadway. It's called a shared right. Now, a
vehicle can pass a bike when it's safe, but not until it's safe to pass
that bicycle."
