Neighborhood Meeting

Winnebago St. Roadway Redesign Concepts

7:00 - 9:00 pm, Tuesday, May 9, 2006

Trinity Lutheran Church, 1902 Winnebago St.

(Please use entrance on Atwood Ave. nearest First St.)

I am writing to invite you to a meeting to discuss concepts for redesigning segments of Winnebago St. from the Yahara River to Sixth Street, including the following:

· Permitting east-bound traffic to enter Winnebago at the Yahara River

("Two-way Winnebago")

· Creating a mid-block crosswalk in the 1900 Block

· Installing additional crosswalks at Schenks Corners and reclaiming some pavement for safer pedestrian crossings

· Narrowing Winnebago St. from 48' to 40' from Second St. to Fifth St.

· Installing median islands at the Winnebago/Fourth St. intersection

· Ending Division St. at LaFollette/creating a ped/bike path across the rail line

· "Squaring" the intersection of LaFollette and Winnebago

City Engineering and Traffic Engineering staff will present these concepts, which they have drawn up. Some of these concepts may be controversial, and all will require further discussion. The intent is to find out what changes neighbors, both residential and commercial, want to see in the Winnebago St./Schenks Corners street design. We will also look at preliminary designs for Union Corners' phase one roadways. Please contact me with questions and concerns:

ps: I am trying to get the designs on the City website or find some other way to get the concepts out to you ahead of time. I'll send more information when I have it.
