It looks like some people are starting to get it....Here's a fun Op-Ed in the Cap Times by Bill Berry:

Here's a section that I really liked:

"Remember, we have $3 a gallon gas now, and national security think tanks are warning that any of a dozen disruptions to the current flow of oil will push the price through the ceiling. It might be a pirate ship or a terrorist plot or a hurricane or civil strife in any number of unstable dots on the map. A nice mess, indeed. "You," of course, is also us. We have built whole sprawling communities around the automobile, and the idea that someone can fetch a loaf of bread without firing up a combustible engine is so foreign as to be lost on many. Even those focusing on renewable energy are long on supply solutions and short on what we already know will work wonders, that being conservation and, not to sound treasonous, reduced consumption of a lot of crap we don't need in the first place, most of it brought to us from faraway places and bringing virtually no benefits to our local economies. Yes, Ollie, push away from the table."
