Robbie, What IS the state health plan on nutrition and physical
activity? Has it gotten any previous press?

It's being released on Friday. That's why there's a press conference!

Although we all know that things rarely move as quickly and as
decisively as we would like, I have been working very hard to be sure
the types of issues you and I care about are included: community design,
respect for people walking and biking, encouragement of walking and
biking by all levels of government, working with
schools/workplaces/stores to make them easy to get to, etc. The
Wisconsin Network for Physical Active and Nutrition (WINPAN) has been
meeting for several years to work out strategies for decreasing
overweight and obesity. I've been very active in working on
environmental factors. I think you'd like those elements in the plan.

I'll let you know if there is a link on line. I'm really excited that
some of our concerns are finally being addressed by DHFS and other
health professionals. WINPAN is really a coalition of groups including
Wisc Restaurant Assn, insurance companies, country public health
educators, other non-profits, researchers, etc., so it's more than just
DHFS or other state agencies, although there has been representation
from DPI, DNR, DOT, DHFS, and even the legislature at times.

Come on down and see what they say!
