If any was needed. According to this press release

  http://transit.metrokc.gov/up/archives/sep05/wifitest.html

Seattle WA has been testing using buses as rolling wifi hotspots.

On the obvious upside, it makes riding the bus into more of a premium service by giving riders another way to make effective use of commute time. And it might get some small percentage off their cellphones, lowering cranial cancer rates and annoyance levels.

Hazards I can envision include fellow passengers (bus drivers?) browsing inappropriate content (read: pr0n), jealous motorists (bicyclists?) following too closely to attempt to steal service, and, of course, being hacked on the fly. But it sure does seem like an attractive alternative to $70/month wireless internet from the telcos. Some folks I know buy that just for use during their bus commute.

Unfortunately, neither of the test routes serve my neighborhood, so I can't report directly on the quality or utility of the service in practice.
