Everyone who rides Univ Ave, please stop pedaling and count to ten . . .

At least we have the eastbound bike lane there. Usually it's the
reverse, the bike lane is closed and bicyclists have no where else to go
so they ride on the sidewalk and I receive tons of complaints from
pedestrians wanting to poke an umbrella in the bicyclists' spokes. No
one is ever happy with other people's behavior and everyone wants the
other person to change and no one wants to reflect on their own behavior
and how that might impact other people's safety. Safety is the critical
thing. We all, no matter our mode, need to operate in whatever
environment we find ourselves in, in a way that ensures everyone's
safety. Our own convenience needs to be held secondary to other
people's safety. Okay, I'll get off my soapbox. Please, everyone, this
is going to be a long project, 1.5 to 2 years. We have to expect delays
in this area, we need to cooperate with everyone else who is out there.
If this route is too much of a problem for anyone then I would be glad
to suggest alternative routes. Just give me a call.

Arthur

Subject: [Bikies] Is it manslaughter...

if I run over pedestrians in the counter flow lane on the 800 block of
University Ave? Clearly posted "no pedestrians" and yet the witless
students wander down, side by side, cell phones stuck to their heads.
I have been enjoying getting right up to them and then screaming "HEY
this is a BIKE LANE! Get a CLUE!" If nothing else I want to at least jog
their feeble senses.

In my dreams I have the bicycle equivalent of a Hummer
<http://fotos.mtb-news.de/fotos/data/500/13527Gunnar3.jpg> and I roll
right over their wailing broken bodies. Then I'd turn around and do it
again.
