We have a school spending referendum to consider in next month's election. Details here: http://www.madison.k12.wi.us/budget/ref06/
How is this important to bicycle transportation? The documents prepared by the school district don't address the question directly. But is our planning for these new residents proactive and fair in how it allocates the infrastructure costs of the new neighborhoods? Why don't the developers and new neighborhoods' future residents carry their own weight? According to the website, "The district has ongoing communication with the City of Madison Department of Planning and Development related to planned and current neighborhood development within the city. The district has similarly worked with City of Fitchburg planning officials to discuss issues related to growth and development." Oh. I do not comprehend why I pay an increased tax burden for sprawl development at the edge of the city. And of course, the referendum to increase the tax levy is just a small and easily visible proportion of the price we all pay for sprawl development. I don't like paying for Bush's war in Iraq either. I am a strong believer in education, and I know it is one of the best investments we can make as citizens. I'll vote in favor of the school referendums. _______________________________________________ Bikies mailing list [email protected] http://www.danenet.org/mailman/listinfo/bikies
