Fellow Bikies,

Read on for notice of an important meeting - visualizing the future of the Garver Feed Mill. Many of us are familiar with this site, immediately behind Olbrich Gardens, adjacent to the bicycle path. Here's a chance to share your ideas.

Please try and make it to this important meeting (see paste below), Sunday Nov 5th, 1:00 - 4:00pm.

This site (North Plat at Olbrich, surrounding the Garver building) is at the junction of the east and west branch of Starkweather Creek (Madison's largest urban watershed). Future use or changes to this site may beneficially or negatively affect the evolution and enjoyment of an area currently featuring both a degraded soils history AND a refuge from bright sky interference and noise (you are in open space surrounding nearly entirely by trees when on the site). The North Plat is currently used by some neighbors for quiet walks/night walks, dog walking, bird watching, star gazing, etc.

Do you (for instance) want to see tour buses moving through the space in transit to Olbrich Botanical Gardens? How about a big parking lot for buses? Are these future options? Have they been planned for (check the current Olbrich Gardens Master Plan, for example, if you have questions)?

Below is the text from Judy Olson's note to residents immediately adjacent to North Plat/Garver site of Olbrich area.

VISUALIZING THE GARVER SITE

Alders Olson and Palm, SASY Neighborhood Association, Friends of Starkweather Creek

When and Where:
Olbrich Botannical Society Gardens, Commons Room
Sunday November 5th, 1:00 - 4:00

What Is the Purpose?
Plans are underway to begin a process leading to the development and renovation of the Garver Building on the north plat of the Olbrich property. The mayor recently appointed a committee to prepare the application to guide potential developers for the Garver Building. This guide would set criteria for evaluating the applications of potential developers there. We would like to help the neighborhood identify issues for the Mayor's Committee to consider in this process. For example there may be issues about protecting vistas, trees or treelines, or other concerns related to protecting secluded uses of special spots, etc.

What Is the Process?
The neighborhood is urged to take digital pictures of the North Plat vistas, treelines, special spots, etc. before November 5th or during the first 45 minutes of the meeting. Small groups taking pictures will select their favorite 5 or 6 to load onto a computer to be projected on the wall. Each group will discuss their priority issues based on the pictures. In addition people will note on their priorities on a large aerial map of the north plat. From the pictures and notes themes will be identified and the group as a whole will decide what are the highest priority concerns for the mayorís committee to address in its RFP criteria for potential developers of the Garver Property. A summary of these issues will be presented to the Mayor's Committee which both Alder Olson and Alder Palm serve on.
