Mr. Secretary of Transportation Busalacchi, I request that Transportation Enhancements be funded at the full 10% of the Surface Transportation funding (or about $15-$18 million PER YEAR).

I am an avid bicyclist who rides bike paths, local roads and city streets regularly for pleasure, exercise and commuting. I bike nearly 3000 miles every year and enjoy all of them. Okay, I admit, some hills may be a bit tough in the driftless area. My wife and two teenage boys also enjoy biking but maybe not to the degree that I do. They enjoy riding the bike paths at an easy Sunday pace. Bicycling is a healthy habit that it is good for you and the environment. Driving a car, I feel, is an addiction that is not very healthy for the driver or the environment. I admit that I have three cars (one is a hybrid) and do drive but also do feel that we must foster the growth of alternative transportation, such as bicycling, into the future.

We need to continue to adequately fund Transportation Enhancements that enhance and maintain safe and healthy alternative transportation into the future. The many, many bicyclists of today and the many, many children of tomorrow will thank you for your support. I dream of a tomorrow with many, many more energetic, healthy and safe bicyclists. Help tomorrow happen! Thank-you!
