This lady is absolutely amazing. She's been told NO a million different times, a million different ways, by every official in the land....Yet, she just keeps going & going, pushing for a bike path that connects Brooklyn to Oregon (possibly northwards into Fitchburg) along/beside the existing RR. Her secret is, she doesn't know what the hell she is doing. That is, she has no idea just how daunting the task is. But precisely because she has no idea what she is up against, she is farther ahead, faster, than just about any other trail project I've ever seen as it evolved.

I think she got a hold of me via the Bicycling Community Page (EVIVAAAAAA!!!!!!!!!!). I've given her as much info/encouragement/advice as I can. Now it is probably up to the folks who live nearby (possibly my buddies a BFW????) to help her out.

I know there are some people out her way who could help out. I think it would be pretty cool to see this project get built.

P.s. Yeah, yeah, I know, the roads out there are actually pretty nice for us Effective Cyclist/bikie types, but, you know, its for the children (as they say in the biz). Besides, with the way sprawl is engulfing every cool road there is, a few more trails wouldn't be bad for all of us.

This past Monday, I met with the Brooklyn Village Board and they gave their
support of forming an inter-community committee in support of a bike path
to connect from Brooklyn to Oregon and then on to Fitchburg. Our next step
is to ask Strand for an estimate on how much it would cost to analyze the
corridor between Brooklyn and Oregon for a bike path and feasibility. I
would like to also get at least 2 people from each of the Village of
Oregon, Town of Oregon, City of Fitchburg and Village of Brooklyn involved
in this committee. I am also going to continue researching the grant (Safe
Routes to Schools) through DOT. I received some information from the
meeting held in Madison from Bob, Thank you, and will be reviewing it and
contacting the school district to see what their thoughts are. There was
also a newspaper article in the Oregon Observer with one mistake. They
stated we were going to do a "Rails to Trails" project and we are looking
at a "Rails WITH Trails" project. As always, please let me know if you
have any insight to help in the progression for fund raising, engineering,
support for our committee, etc. We will be meeting on Wednesday, November
29th, in the Brooklyn Community Building at 7:00. Let me know if you are
interested in attending this meeting. If you wish to be taken off the
mailing list, please reply and let me know.

Thank you.......Heidi Fischer
