Speaking of radio, here's another idea -- why not put the same information ON THE RADIO???!?!? I don't mean those 20-second spots the commercial stations do, where the guys are in a never-ending race to see how fast they can pronounce "Verona Road". No, just like there's a weather radio frequency, with a constant loop of weather conditions, why not just snag an AM frequency and run a constant loop of traffic conditions?
Another potential side-effect of the 511 service is that it might encourage more people to obtain cell phones, who (like me) otherwise don't have them. There's hardly a car on the road without a radio. I'm sure this is already being done in bigger cities. Why the drive (no pun intended) here to skip the simpler, free, all-inclusive technology for one that compels people to join the great cellular link? --------------- Paul T.
