Dear Bicycle Federation of Wisconsin Members,
The Board of Directors of the Bicycle Federation
of Wisconsin (BFW) met at its annual retreat this
past weekend, January 26-27, in Madison. The BFW
organization is faced with some immediate
challenges, but the Board is excited about
embracing the future and is confident as we also
reaffirm the organizations mission.
Furthermore, we want to ensure you that the
stability of the organization is of the utmost
important to the Board of Directors. We are
committed to making sure this member-based
non-profit organization is viable and stable for
the long term, and that we are able to accomplish
the goals of the organization.
Staffing Changes
In mid-January the tenure of the executive
director was ended. Were certain that you
understand and appreciate that personnel issues
are delicate and confidential. Therefore it is
not appropriate for either the Board or staff to
discuss individual staffing issues.
The Board of Directors has formed a search
committee to fill the vacant position of
executive director. It will probably take about
60 to 90 days to fill this critical role. In the
meantime, Jack Hirt will serve as the Interim
Program Director and will continue as the main
contact in the Milwaukee office. Chuck Strawser
will serve as the Interim Administrative Director
and will be the main contact at the Madison
office. We are confident in our staff and in our
Board of Directors to make this transition as
smooth as possible as we continue to build a strong statewide organization.
Future Focus
At the annual retreat, the Board of Directors of
the Bicycle Federation of Wisconsin set its
future direction by reiterating and focusing its
commitment to making Wisconsin a better place to
bicycle. The BFW will continue to focus its
energies on education, advocacy and coordination
of bicycling interests across the state. By
focusing on these goals, we will not only be a
strong organization today, but we will grow to
meet the future cycling needs for the State of Wisconsin.
The BFW will continue to strengthen governmental
relations and increase funding opportunities. We
also recognize, acknowledge and value the
commitment and contributions of time, talent and
treasure that have been made by you
the BFW
members. To that end, the board and staff will
hold a series of town hall meetings in 2007
throughout the state with you, the members, regarding bicycling issues.
Thank you for your continued support of the
Bicycle Federation of Wisconsin. You are the
heart and soul of this organization. If you have
any questions please feel free to contact one of us.
Sincerely,
Bicycle Federation of Wisconsin Board of Directors
