FYI: Followup...I DID report the problem to the City website...and within a few
hours the "snow boss" had emailed me to let me know that the land in question
belonged to the school district and that he would alert them to my request for
plowing the path. Kudos to him.
Now what I want to know is...if I can get fined for not plowing the sidewalk in
front of my house...can the school get fined for not plowing the bike path on
its property? Or is this one of those cases where, it's a sidewalk when that
is convienent and it is a road when that suits the need and it's just a field
when it needs plowing.
Man unemployment makes me cranky.

Anyone can go to the 'Report a problem' line on the City Web site
homepage and scroll down to the section about snowplowing. Although they ask
you to report a street section that needs work they should act on bike path
plowing concerns.

Gripe for the Day: Dementral Field Bike Path is not plowed.
Moving on to bigger annoyances
I noticed that in the Governors State of the
State (partial text below), he made reference to the need to deal with the
issue of global warming and air quality. That noise that you just heard was
Mike N gasping that I would actually care about such a thing, but I do. In the
speech the Governor mentioned all kinds of ways to address the issue of global
warming
but he doesnt mention bicycling and walking once. He proposes a $40
million investment in strategies to address the issue
but at the same time,
hes not fully funding programs that pay for facilities for biking and walking.
This just seems crazy to me.
How can we make the powers that be understand that, if we all just walked and
biked a little more, the world would be such a better place?

Over the past few years, the world has awakened to the growing, accelerating
threat of global warming.
There is no question that global warming demands immediate action by the
federal government. It is a disgrace that so many national leaders have turned
a blind eye to what is a scientific fact. Yet the scope and consequences of
this problem are so massive that the responsibility for action rests not only
with our leaders in Washington, but with all of us.
With new technology, and a commitment to renewable fuels, we can not only
reduce the carbon emissions that cause global warming, we can and will help
this nation kick its addiction to foreign oil.
In my budget, Ill propose the next major step forward in our effort to
become Americas leader in energy independence a $40 million investment in
renewable energy like solar, wind, hydrogen, biodiesel and ethanol.
Well provide incentives to dramatically increase the availability of E-85.
Well move four university campuses off the power grid in the next five years.
And next year, well more than double our commitment to energy conservation.
Tonight, I am announcing a Governors Task Force on Global Warming, comprised
of business, industry, labor, environmental, government and community leaders
to develop a comprehensive plan of action that we can all get behind.
Of course, one state, acting alone, cant do everything. But my fellow
citizens, we have a responsibility to do everything we can. I ask you to join
me, and make a commitment that when it comes to global warming solutions,
Wisconsin will lead the way.
