Gang,
I wanted to put in a plug for some candidates I really like and who
have been endorsed by Bicycle Transportation Alliance of Dane Co. If
we want to keep making progress on the bike/walk front, we've got to
burn some shoe leather to get them in there.
All of them could use some help, especially with lit drops (starting
tomorrow and every weekend til the election in April). It is always
best to help out in a district near you, but I've put stars by the
campaigns that, by my esimation, will require the biggest amount of
citizen push to get them over the top. (More stars=need more help!).
But no slight is intended to any candidate--any and all help
everywhere will boost the cause.
You can contact their campaign to volunteer to help through their website:
District 6 : Marsha Rummel

District 10: Brian Solomon

*****District 15: Vicky Selkowe

[EMAIL PROTECTED]; ph: 256-7144]--This one is particularly
important because the incumbent has been so odious toward transit and
other basic city services.
**District 5: Robbie Webber (Not yet endorsed by BTA cuz she didn't
have a primary, so I'm sure it will be forthcoming--soon. I don't
know her camp. website, but she can be contacted at 233-1390.
Below is a plea from my buddy Al Matano (fellow bikie & pro-transit
geek) looking for a little help this weekend. I know all of the other
campaigns would echo the same plea.
We won't ever get better politics unless we work for the better candidates.
Thanks!
-Mike

Greetings Mike:
If you'd like to help re-elect my alder and buddy Tim, here's what
we're up to this coming weekend. We'd love your help.
You saw the election results, Tim is in the lead but it's close. So
we need to work as hard as we can to bring this one home. Tim has
been out there working hard and here's something you can do to help
out:
Lit drop* for Tim Gruber this Saturday (aka March 3) from 10 am till
noon at the home of Al Matano at 3745 Ross Street, Madison WI 53705.
My house is on the corner of Glenway and Ross...and volunteers can
enter via the screen door on Glenway. Look for the Al Matano for
County Board sign in the snow bank.
If you can make it, please e-mail me or call me (238-3045). If
Saturday doesn't work for you, we can arrange for you to pick up a
lit route in the district.
If this weekend does not work out for you, we will be doing a small
lit drop the weekend of March 10/11 or on Saturday March 17. We will
also have a get out the vote literature distribution the weekend
before the spring election, Saturday and Sunday March 31 and April 1.
We'll be trying to cover the entire district - about 30 routes in all
- so we will need all the volunteer help we can get.
Thanks! Just a bit over a month to go...
Al
you might know this...
*A lit drop involves picking up a route that includes a map and lit
pieces and then you'd go and put literature in the doors/door
handles/etc (but never in mailboxes) to all the places on the route.
It'd take about an hour or so. You wouldn't knock on doors or
anything like that...
