Dear Group, I don't live in Madison and certainly not in District 12. But this exchange sheet/webnews has become a Madison political platform for requirement. In that spirit should not info on the entire four candidate field for the vacant District 12 be shown on this political site?

If elected, what would you do differently from your opponent? Basford: With my experience in our neighborhoods and city government, I will hit the ground running to best serve District 12. Deadman: As an independent and political moderate, I can remain objective and beholden only to the people of my district. Rhodes-Conway: Broader, deeper work experience, especially on city issues, in addition to my neighborhood and community activism. Watson: Represent my district. As a progressive independent. I've adopted no one's platform and taken no one's money. What are the three biggest issues facing your district? Basford: Economic disparity; traffic issues; Warner Park plan that includes a pool and renovated Duck Pond. Deadman: Insuring quality city services at a price we an afford, helping attract quality jobs and businesses, and keeping our neighborhoods safe. Rhodes-Conway: Accessible and responsive government; transportation that works for everyone; safety. Watson: Uncontrolled development, small business retention, decreased funding for non-profits. What would you add to or trim from the budget? Basford: Look first where gains in efficiency could be made, including support for planning councils. For investments, maximize the economic return. Deadman: Prioritize core services such as clean water and public protection and encourage businesses to increase our tax base. Consolidate services with other governments. Rhodes-Conway: Give every citizen easy access to detailed budget information (particularly about the cost of programs) and the opportunity for meaningful public comment. Watson: Invest a small amount now as opposed to a larger amount later. A dollar a day to put a kid in 4-year-old kindergarten is better than eight dollars a day to incarcerate that child at 18. What's your top community service priority? Basford: Create a Madison that allows everybody to be able to enjoy the environment and opportunities. Deadman: Improving "core" services such as public protection, emergency services, garbage pick- up, street maintenance and water quality. Rhodes-Conway: Deal with the undercurrent of racism that exists here, invest more in child care. Watson: Represent my district, nurture and promote small and minority-owned businesses, fund local nonprofits and charities, secure beneficial development. _______________________________________________ Bikies mailing list [email protected] http://www.danenet.org/mailman/listinfo/bikies
