Bikies, This is the last weekend before the April 3rd election, and there are a number of BTA-endorsed candidates that could use your help. Recently, an interesting imbalance in out-of-district financing has come to my attention. Foremost on this list.:
In District 18, Jon Beckers opponent has received 88% of his financing from outside the district. Jons got a great base of support from residents in his district, and it would be a shame if outside interests were allowed to control the results of the election. In contrast, Jon's out-of-district contribution rate is something like 15%. In District 5, Robbie Webbers opponent has received 75% of his financing from outside the district a large percentage of which comes through conduit funds which are basically a slightly diluted kind of PAC with no donation limit at the organization level. Early reports from District 12 (Satya Rhodes-Conway) also suggest her opponent is being backed by Realtor/Chamber of Commerce Conduit Funding. For this reason, if you want to make the most difference with your volunteer time this weekend, please seriously consider helping Jon, Robbie, or Satya out. With that, here is the full list of volunteer opportunities this weekend. [ If you cant make the times listed, give the contact a call and see if you can arrange another time to volunteer. And please let me know of any additions or corrections! ] Jon Becker (District 18): ========================= MAR 31 (Saturday) 10a-12n Meet @ 4233 Kenwood Street (Jon Becker's residence) Contact: Mike Basford e-mail: mabasford at charter.net phone: 513-1387 Robbie Webber (District 5) ========================== Mar 31 (Saturday) 10a Meet @ 2613 Stevens St (Robbies House) Contact: Robbie Webber e-mail Robbie at tds.net Home: 225-0002 Cell: 233-1390 Satya Rhodes-Conway (District 12) ================================= April 1 (No fooling, Sunday) 12 noon meet @ Café Labellitalia 1026 N Sherman Ave (just south of Aberg Ave) Contact: Sigrid Peterson e-mail: sig.peterson at gmail.com phone: 449-8489 Aaron Backer (District 1) ========================= Mar 31 (Saturday) 10am meet @ 1421 Waldorf Blvd. Madison, WI 53719 Contact: Phone 658-8234 Tim Gruber (District 13) ======================== Mar 31 (10am-noon) Apr 1 (11am-1pm) Please RSVP with contact in advance. The best source of information is a candidate, since they have monitors in each ward reporting back as soon as the polls close. If you are not lucky enough to be hooked up to a candidate, I have prepared an automated election data tracker that you can view here: http://www.danenet.org/bcp/bta/resultsb.php Thanks so much to everyone who volunteers it really makes a difference! Oh, and don't forget to vote on April 3rd!
