My thoughts exactly. We need transportation-savvy representatives on the board. > Say, Robbie, as long as we're using you as a punching bag (!), didn't > you endorse Maya Cole? She promised me that she would not vote to > close schools. She also said so on our neighborhood email list. She > needs to be given an upbraiding for this terrible, terrible vote. In all fairness, we haven't heard Maya's argument on this yet. I'm going to reserve judgment until I hear the whole story. The Marquette NA is holding a meeting on the 16th which may include a discussion with Maya about this matter. I plan to attend. If it turns out that there were reasonable alternatives to this closing, then it will be time for the upbraiding to commence. If not, then I'll take the negative energy from this experience and channel it into addressing this at the State level. One of the more troubling requests I see in the school boards needs from the state is that they want to increase the state subsidy for bussing. This to me is counter-productive in Madison since it de-incentivizes neighborhood-scaled schools. On the flip side, is there room for the City of Madison to step in and re-incentivize neighborhood-scaled schools? _______________________________________________ Bikies mailing list [email protected] http://www.danenet.org/mailman/listinfo/bikies
