Happened to overhear CNN's newsbite regarding the increased gas pricing
yesterday. No suggestions as to how to save gas unfortunately. But for the
first time ever that I am aware of, they referred to the fact that gas prices,
when adjusted for inflation, are still lower than they were in 1981. (1981 is
the historical high water mark; no one is adjusting for the various taxes
either, that would be an interesting story).

We need to be topping $5/gal (or more!) before gas prices really start to push
people into thinking about alternatives like bicycling and mass transit I'm
afraid.

Subject: [Bikies] How not to help consumers during a gas shortage:

I just ran across a page from the Austin American-Statesman that
supposedly gives consumers advice on how to save money on gas:

http://www.statesman.com/business/content/business/other/gas.html

There is a link under "tips to save you money" on "public transit." I
was overjoyed to see a news publication actually present "public
transit" as a means to save money on gas. I clicked on the link and
discovered the article was disparaging public transit. What a complete
waste of a great opportunity to help educate the public:
