Did Metro say what they would do? Have they gotten anyone to slap any
yellow paint along that stretch of curb yet?

[Bikies] cars rule, bus riders drool--parking in bus stop spaces

Before this has always been an irritant to me. Now I see the real point
of the
matter. I speak of Madison Metro Bus Stop areas, which I believe are
also NO
PARKING spots. The general public doesn't give a donkey's behind about
this
rule. Especially during nice weather, there is always some chucklehead
who
parks their minivan or SUV in the bus stop across from Acewood Park on
Acewood
Boulevard to let their charges out for some exercise. Today that was the
case.

A minivan sat squarely on the bus stop where my daughter and I wanted to
get
off. The bus driver had to pull up alongside a minivan because the bus
stop was
taken. Gee, exiting was going to be a problem. The minivan was right at
the
back exit, blocking a safe exodus from the bus.

I had our three-year-old with me. (We were crazy enough to take the bus
downtown to visit the museums instead of use a car. How backward of us!)
 We
made our way to the front of the bus, which of course was holding up
traffic
because we were taking so long looking for a safe way to leave. When we
got
off the bus, there was no curb to step on, and our daughter, who was
tired from
hours of walking around and riding on the buses, went sprawling onto the
pavement. I had to pick her up and carry her at least four feet to the
curb
where she would be safe. Meanwhile I can see three cars backed up behind
the
bus.

Why is there no paint on these curbs designating them as NO PARKING
spots--especially ones near places where lazy people who spend their
lives with
their behinds affixed to the seats of their vehicles are tempted to park?
 Woe
to anyone who isn't nimble of foot and able to make the leap between bus
door
and curb. I'm sure any of you living near parks know the drill...

I'll give Metro credit, they took my call seriously when I complained.
I'm
pretty brave of heart, but a lot of people would be put off by the short
shrift
given bus riders in this area. A little paint would go a long way. For
some
reason people still somewhat respect that slap of yellow paint along a
curb.
