We are approaching the two year anniversary of the crash that killed local
community activist and planner Jessica Bullen. The folks at Quann Community
Gardens are building a memorial to Jess, who was active at the Gardens. You
can donate to the cause at

I didn't know Jess personally, though many of my friends did. Her death shook
me to my core, though...more so than any other death I have experienced
including my own brother's. Though extraordinary in her own right, in many
ways, Jess was just like you or I...and it could have just as easily been you
or I instead of Jess that was struck and killed by a wreckless idiot picking
his teeth in his rear view mirror after a long history of driving violations.
If it HAD been you or I...Jess would probably be writing this email right now.
Along with the death of Susie Stephens
(http://home.swbell.net/mpion/susiestephens.html) Jess's death was a reminder
to me of why we fight this fight...as frustrating as it often is. Not just to
make our daily rides more pleasant...but to preserve and improve our own safety
and freedom.
I don't know if any of you go on Critical Mass rides these days...but Friday's
ride might be a nice time to remember Jess as well. I doubt that I'll be on
the ride, but please pass the word if you or someone you know is going.
